PKRC is now traveling to Scotland, attending an introductory ESPA workshop. ESPA stands for Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation. The workshop is held in Edinburgh. This meeting will guide the upcoming workshop to be held at Gobabeb, Namibia towards the end of October 2010. More info about this event will be posted during the coming week and when I am back in Namibia again.

From the ESPA website:

The Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation Programme (ESPA) will support innovative research designed to generate new evidence leading to a step change in global understanding about the way that ecosystem services can contribute to the reduction of poverty. Funded by the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council, Economic and Social Research Council and the Department for International Development ESPA’s research will bridge the social and natural sciences. The ESPA programme will issue an Announcement of Opportunity during September 2010 asking for research proposals to support a number of consortia who will deliver the world-class research that is required to underpin the programme. ESPA’s Consortium projects will be the largest part of the programme and are expected to bring together the world’s leading researchers in partnerships that links disciplines and ESPA’s geographical regions (Africa, South Asia, China and Amazonia).
