About

PKRC is managed by Dr. Patrik Klintenberg. PKRC is conducting research and consultancies in the fields of environmental science and applied environmental engineering.

About Dr. Klintenberg
Dr. Klintenberg has a PhD in Physical Geography obtained at Stockholm University, Sweden in 2008. Between 1997 and 2012 he lived and worked in Namibia where he gained vast experience about the Namibian environment and the people depending on its resources. Dr. Klintenberg was employed at the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia (DRFN), where he took part in many projects, mainly in the environmental field, but also in IT development and administration, and web design. Currently Dr. Klintenberg is a senior lecturer in Environmental Engineering at Mälardalen University in Sweden, where he is also the Director of Operations for Idélab, the University’s business incubator.

Research
Dr. Klintenberg’s research in Namibia was focused on how to monitor environmental change in an arid to semi-arid environment on national to local levels. This resulted in a national system for monitoring of land degradation. On the local level investigations of users’ perceptions about environmental change in central northern Namibia were conducted, combined with detailed assessments of impacts of past and current land uses on natural resources in the Ombuga grassland, a vast grass and shrubland area north of the Etosha National Park.

Dr. Klintenberg’s current research is in the field of rural electrification using renewables. The research is focused on technology- and knowledge transfer and the sustainability of electrification projects.

Supervision of tertiary students
While in Namibia Dr. Klintenberg organised several courses for tertiary students from both Namibia and abroad. These courses aimed at investigating the interface between biophysical environment and socio-economic situations faced by the people depending on natural resources. He has supervised a large number of Namibian and foreign interns and students conducting fieldwork in Namibia and Botswana.
